Wine mocked by Dragons' Den wins 'Oscar' – Daily TV round-up

A wine sold in its own cup that was dismissed by the dragons from 'Dragons' Den' has won a major award at the wine 'Oscars'.

Le Froglet Rose, invented by packaging expert James Nash, has scooped the Great Value Champion Rose at the International Wine Challenge.

But the product was unceremoniously rejected by Theo Paphitis, Duncan Bannatyne, Deborah Meaden and Peter Jones in 2009.

Nash was asking for £250,000 from the dragons, but was rebuked over his financial projections, while the product was branded 'tacky'.

Bannatyne said: “This doesn’t work as a selling item. People do not want to buy wine in plastic glasses like that. For that reason, I’m out.”

But undeterred, Nash went on to place his 'cup-a-wine' concept in Marks & Spencer, and has sold 250,000 since June 2010.

It's not the first money-spinner to be passed over by the dragons.

The Trunki, which Theo Paphitis took to pieces on the show, has sold over one million units in 62 countries and won more than 50 design awards. [Daily Mail]
