Morris, who hosted the 'Good Morning Britain' section of the pioneering morning show, passed away on Sunday after suffering from a short illness.

Morris presented the show alongside the likes of Richard Keys, Jayne Irving, Anneka Rice, Anne Diamond and Nick Owen.

Former colleague Lorraine Kelly led tributes on her 'Daybreak' show this morning, saying: “He was a nice guy. Really funny, really good at his job, very very underrated because he never made a fuss, just got on with it.

“He really made it look easy, I think that was the thing about Mike. Our thoughts are with his family this morning, of course.”

Morris was a newsman for newspapers and the newswire service Reuters before turning to broadcasting in 1979 for Thames News.

He then became part of the launch team for ‘TV-am’ in 1985 as a sports correspondent before taking to the sofa as a presenter.

He also presented 'Calendar', the regional news show for Yorkshire Television until 2003.

Richard Keys also tweeted of his sadness, saying: “Desperately sad news. Mike Morris, my buddy from ‘TV-am’, died last night. Top guy and hugely under-rated. Loved a laugh. I'll miss you buddy.” [Digital Spy]
