Tina Malone brands own show Splash! 'garbage' – Daily TV round-up

Shameless star isn't quite convinced of the programme's artistic merits

'Shameless' star Tina Malone has said that 'Splash!', ITV's celebrity diving show that she is set to appear in, is 'garbage'.

The Liverpool-born actress made the comments during a radio interview, and asked viewers not to vote for her.

“Diving off a three-metre board into an 18ft pool is absolutely horrendous,” she told Juice FM.

“I’m 50 years of age in two weeks. I haven’t seen my final swimming costume yet – but I hope it’s going to be a tent. But on a serious note I’m an actor, not a celebrity. It’s the big fat cheques that make me happy.

“That’s why I’ve done 'Celebrity Come Dine With Me', 'Celebrity Four Weddings' – which I won – and 'Celebrity Big Brother', which I knew I’d only be in for 15 days.

“But, unfortunately, you have to do this garbage. Don’t keep me in 'Splash!'. I still get the same money if I do one heat or three heats, so don’t vote for Tina Malone. Thank you!”

Malone is due to appear on the show in the coming weeks, alongside the likes of Caprice, Sugababes singer Jade Ewen, Dom Joly, Omid Djalili and TOWIE's Joey Essex.

The show, which is presented by Vernon Kaye and Gabby Logan, and features Olympian Tom Daley as the celebrity trainer, has already received a mixed response.

While it has been called 'a new low' for television, it still managed to draw an audience of over six million last Saturday night, the highest figure of all the channels in that time slot. [The Sun]
