The Apprentice is back with a double bill next Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 October, before settling into it's regular 9pm Wednesday slot on BBC One, and it seems that producers are pulling out all the stops as the show enters its tenth year.

Despite sticking to its 12-week run, producers have upped the ante by increasing the number of contestants from 16 to 20, with promises of double firings.

The winning wannabe entrepreneur will bag themselves a business partner in the form of Lord Sugar and £250,000 to help them get started.

In the first episode, he explains: "This deal is all about getting a £250,000 injection into a company that both of us will own on a 50:50 basis. I won’t be working, you will be working. I will be advising and mentoring."

And there are certainly some interesting candidates in the running this year, from Hypnotherapist Sarah Dales, who advises all the girls to "wear short skirts and bring lots of make-up", to pub quiz company owner Daniel Lassman and Colombian-born Felipe Alviar-Baquero who only talks about himself in the third person.

Then there's 24-year-old Scott McCulloch, who describes himself as a "mix between Gandhi and The Wolf Of Wall Street."

All 20 contestants, who all live in the same plush Hampstead pad for the three-month process, are given a sales task for their first challenge.

Lord Sugar challenges them to sell products which have all appeared in the first task of the last nine series including sausages, flowers, coffee and fruit, in a nod to the show's anniversary, with predictable mayhem ensuing.

Companion show The Apprentice: You’re Fired! will also return to air on BBC Two immediately after the main programme, hosted by Dara O Briain.

Taking a trip down memory lane, a special one-off will air on Monday 13th with Lord Sugar, Nick and Karren reminiscing over some of the show's most memorable moments, including that ill-fated quest for kosher chicken in Marrakesh.
