Soaps preview: Mon 26 – Fri 30 August

David becomes a dad – maybe – on ‘Corrie’, carry on camping for the ‘Enders’ teens and Rhona’s on the way out on ‘Emmerdale’.

Coronation Street
Tina might be the keeper of David’s terrible secret – but she’s not going to keep schtum for ever. Now, good old Bad David Platt might think of chucking her under a tram or Stapeing her and burying her in Underworld. But now he’s back to normal, he’s probably going to do what she says and tell Leanne the truth about the accident. Boring.

Tina is even more certain that David has to come clean when the police rule out foul play - great investigation that, Weatherfield CID, no wonder Psycho Kirsty got to be a detective - and Leanne begins to do what is known in Soapland as “doing a Nikhil” and blame herself for phoning Nick just before the smash.

But just as David opens his mouth, there’s a cry from Number 8 as Kylie goes into labour. The contractions come so fast in fact that she ends up giving birth to a baby daughter in the living room.

They name the child Lily and are both hoping that she’s David’s. But even in the post birth glow, Tina gets right on David’s case again and demands he tells the truth. But David comes up with a new plan: If Nick wakes up and says nothing about the crash, he’ll stay quiet about the affair. Because in terms of naughtiness, attempted murder and adultery are about the same. Will Tina swallow it?
And meanwhile, Gail is in the background trying to get Kylie to agree to a DNA test. It’s all go.

EastEnders
Perhaps it’s because he’s lived more years on this earth than Lou, Ethel and Little Willy combined but when your humble correspondent discusses the plight of 'EastEnders' with former fans, he hears one constant complaint – “why do they keep introducing teenagers we don’t care about?”

Well, fans of those teenagers will be delighted that they’ve earned themselves a special drama filled mini-break away from Walford. Like when Bianca and the Mitchells went to Benidorm only cheaper. Lola, Jay, Dexter, Peter Beale and Abi head off to the country for a couple of nights in a static caravan as well as doing Dexter’s job and dropping off a car for Phil and picking up £10,000 for it – does this sound like something Phil would trust to the teenagers? Just saying.

On the trip, Abi realises she’s missed a period and has a heart-to-heart with Jay about their future, Peter confesses the real reason he left Devon and it turns out that Cindy has been stowing away in the car boot.

A trip to the local pub sees Dexter chatting up a barmaid and causing no end of bother. But of course they’ve left Phil’s money in the caravan and when they get back it’s no longer there. One of them has nicked it. Phil is not going to be happy – he’s probably going to join the ranks of people wanting less teenagers in Walford. But how will he find out which of the motley crew has taken his cash?

Also this week: Jean has a manic episode in front of Ollie. He’s not sure how to react and so she dumps him.

Emmerdale
With Paddy out of the scene Rhona’s straight off to swap her wedding ring to buy more pills. Kirk sees her dealer entering the house and tells Paddy. Paddy storms round to confront them – but is stunned to realise that it’s not a dealer she’s getting off with – it’s Vanessa. Though actually at the rate Vanessa is dispensing pills to her, you could call her a dealer too.

Paddy refuses to believe his eyes – but while he’s dealing with the surprise, Vanessa is panicked to hear about a dealer. She scrolls through Rhona’s phone – troublesome mobile – and picks out evidence of how much she’s using. Realising that the problem is way out of her control she walks out on Rhona.

Rhona responds by downing her remaining pills at once with a bottle of booze and collapsing on the floor. Paddy comes back round to have a final set-to with her and finds her prone on the floor. It’s not long before she’s fighting for her life in the hospital.

Is it the end of her life? If she recovers, will she see the error of her ways?
