Peggy makes a surprise return at Phil's bedside (Credit: BBC)

An icon returns to Walford, fallout from the fire in ‘Corrie’ and Cam uncovered on ‘Emmerdale’.

EastEnders
If you were ailing in hospital – who would you like to have on hand to give you a pep talk? Winston Churchill? Martin Luther-King? Al Pacino in ‘Any Given Sunday’? Well, forget about all of them, there’s only one person you need to see – Peggy Mitchell. That’s right, she’s back, back, back! Albeit briefly.

The thing is, Phil is lounging in his bed feeling sorry for himself and refusing to do the exercises the nurses set him. This is despite the fact Ronnie is in charge of his businesses and he’s heard that Carl is going to move in on his empire and start being the lead bad guy in the Square. In fact, things have got so bad that Ronnie arrives at his office to see Carl sitting at Phil’s desk.

[Why BARBARA WINDSOR WAS NERVOUS over EastEnders' return]

When Billy tells him that this kind of thing is going on - instead of fighting back, Phil appears to have given up.

That is, until, a small bundle of peroxide blonde fury arrives at his bedside. Peggy shows up to see how her beloved son is getting on – presumably a bit more beloved than the last time they met – just after he set the Vic on fire.  She’s heard about his troubles and sympathises. But only for a moment. She tells him his “faaaamily” needs him before giving him a present to give to Lexi and riding off into the sunset (for ever? We do hope not). Has she got through to Phil? Well, let’s just say, Carl’s in for a fight.

Also this week: Dexter is getting used to Sam being around. But when he collapses during a kickabout, will he be around for a long time?

Coronation Street
As one peroxide barmaid delivers a much needed boost to ‘Enders’, there’s another one in Weatherfield who is on the other side of the coin. Stella is completely devastated following the news that Karl was arson about behind her back.

When the coppers turn up at the Rovers asking questions about what she knows, she tells them the truth of course. But she can’t deal with the shame and reckons she’s to blame for his devilish antics.

Putting a lot of pressure on herself and believing everyone is gossiping about her, she hits the bottle hard. But surprisingly enough Dev and Jason turn up to be on her side and she gets some much needed support from Gloria and Eva. Nice. Mind you, it’s probably a good thing that Stella doesn’t realise Eva and Jason are getting very close behind her back. Very close indeed – what is it with Eva and her family’s men, eh?

Anyway, soon there’s only one thing to do, apply a brave face, steel herself, get behind the bar and get serving the regulars. Surely no one would be heartless enough to start whispering about her, would they? Well of course they could. But still...

Also this week: After finding an injured racing pigeon Tyrone gets emotional thinking about the Duckworths, which prompts Fiz to make a surprising decision...

Emmerdale
Now working with the police, Debbie has her home kitted out with surveillance equipment (you can tell in the production meeting they said “It’ll be like ‘The Wire’”) in order that she can trap Cameron into making a confession.

What she doesn’t expect is for him to come straight round and propose. It’s really tough to keep up the pretence but she keeps a stiff upper lip and ploughs on.

But when he does confess it’s out of sight and sound of the police. So they decide to change plan and put a wire on her and arm her only with a police panic word she can drop in so they’ll storm the building.

Just as she finally prises a confession from him, she shouts the codeword and rips the wire from herself. But Cameron is quick, grabs her and barricades them both in the room. If the police come one step closer, he’ll kill Debbie. Is it the end for both of them?

Also this week: Dan offers to be a sperm donor for Ruby and Ali. But do they seriously want that on their hands?
