Noel Edmonds is set for a primetime comeback to the BBC, according to reports.

The veteran Saturday night showman is said to have been wooed back to BBC1 by new boss Danny Cohen.

He is tipped to host 'The Bodyguard', a new show that will replace 'Total Wipeout' in a key slot on the Saturday evening schedule.

The show, which is produced by Endemol, the same company behind Noel Edmonds’ 'Deal Or No Deal', will see contestants become celebrity bodyguards and given various wacky challenges.

The move comes 13 years after Noel Edmonds was ditched by the BBC when the ratings of 'Noel's House Party' began to fall.

An insider told The Sun that 'Noel wasn’t sure he wanted to do it. He is busy with ‘Deal Or No Deal’ and a lot of baggage comes with him returning to the BBC. He’s enjoyed working in the commercial sector and doesn’t need the money'.

“But he has agreed to do this and we all hope it will work out. But the BBC should probably not count their chickens yet,” they added. [The Sun]

Andrew Lloyd Webber has denied that he was axed by the BBC because his talent show to find a new Jesus for his production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' would have been too controversial. “The people at ITV now were the same ones who took a gamble on me in the first place at the BBC, so that’s why I have moved over,” he said.
