Martin Shaw brands Carol Vorderman 'insane' for solo round-the-world flight plan – Daily TV round-up

Actor who has been flying for 22 years advises Loose Women host not to take on challenge.

Martin Shaw has called Carol Vorderman's plan to fly around the world solo 'insane'.

Vorderman, who earned her pilot's licence in November, announced that she plans to take on the 29,000-mile challenge later this year, giving up her spot on the 'Loose Women' panel to do it.

She plans to fly the route that was taken by her hero Amelia Earhart who made an ill-fated attempt in 1937.

Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, but disappeared over the Pacific in her attempt to circumnavigate the globe.

Vorderman will be followed by her Red Arrows pilot boyfriend Graham Duff in a support plane, but 'Judge John Deed' star Shaw, who has been a pilot for 22 years, has branded the plan 'insane'.

“Carol, I think, has only just learned to fly,” he told the Daily Mirror. “If she’s going to do it solo, you have to admire the bravery, but it’s insanity.

“I don’t want to be the spectre at the feast or a wet blanket on her sense of courage, but I’ve been flying for 22 years.

“A plane is like a musical instrument. It’s not a mechanical skill like driving or even playing tennis.

“It’s like being a concert pianist – you can never be good enough.”

Vorderman had to make an emergency landing last October, it was reported, after she smelled burning after take off. [Daily Mirror]
