Mark and Dougie in 'I'm A Celebrity' final

Dougie Poynter

and Mark Wright have made it to the final of 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!'

The best pals survived evictions a-plenty in tonight's show, after both Fatima and Antony were hoofed from the jungle by the public vote.

Antony was given the boot first.

The Corrie star said he was gutted to have left the show just one day before reaching the final.

“I'm gutted, but I did what I could do,” said the acerbic camp chef. “But I'm amazed that I lasted that long. I've genuinely loved every minute. It's at once the most liberating experience, and then on the other side you feel like you're locked in and you can't run away.”

He said that he probably wouldn't have met and made friends with his best jungle pal Mark Wright had the show not happened either. “Our paths just wouldn't have crossed,” he said.

Of his spats with Fatima, he said with remarkable (not to say uncharacteristic) tact and restraint: “I've been relatively tight-lipped. I've watched what I've said.”

It was then Fatima's turn, after a rather awkward prize-giving event the previous night, in which she claimed all the best prizes.

The sporting references flowed freely (actually, make that constantly) as she discussed her time in the wilderness with Ant & Dec.

“I was absolutely delighted that I was able to take part,” she said. “It's been an enormous journey for me. I think any competitor will tell you that to get so close, but yet so far, it would have been nice to go through the finishing line first, but there have been some tough contenders this year.”

Things had got more and more tense the fewer people there were between her and Antony (whom she said she had grown to love despite their differences).

But the final four bonded during the 'Celebrity Cyclone' trial, which came complete with cyclone-strength wind machines, high-powered hoses, goo and massive balls.

Luckily, Fatima held steady, having done an event very similar as part of the decathlon in the 1984 Olympics.
