A major shake-up is being planned by ‘Coronation Street’ bosses when the show moves to its new £30 million set next year.
New families will be brought into the show who live down two nearby streets called Rosamund and Viaduct Street.
“Those streets have always been on the outskirts,” said a source quoted by The Sun, “People are referred to as coming from there but you never see much of them. Now they are going to become home for a lot of new faces who will hopefully be just as popular with viewers as the rest of the cast.
“The feeling is that we need fresh characters to spin the action about.”
Weatherfield is being moved from its current set in central Manchester to a facility near MediaCity in Salford with the move expected to take place next summer.
It was previously planned for next Spring but was delayed by six months.
