'Game of Thrones' has gone past the half way mark of its third season and is quickly becoming a fantasy drama that everyone can sink their teeth into - literally. This is thanks to all of the extremely talented and dedicated bakers of the world. The following people with too much time on their hands have created several cakes of epic proportions, truly bringing the world of Westeros to life.
First up is this creation from Isis Cakes for the very lucky Jamie, a birthday cake to remember, featuring incredible detail with a map of Westeros and an entirely home-made sculpture of one of Daenerys' dragons. On the Isis Cakes facebook there's even a step by step guide, just in case you want to make one of your own, and to be honest who wouldn't?
Secondly, whilst we're on the subject of cakes for an occasion, we see the one tiered birthday cake, and raise you a three tiered monstrosity of a wedding cake, that's probably taller than Gregor Clegane, probably. This quite frankly amazing piece of bakery was posted on the equally amazingly named blog 'When Geeks Wed'. It was made by Kate Bussell and features direwolves, all three dragons, the godswood and of course the iron throne. What a way to start the rest of your life together.
We now move on to a slightly more obscure cake. The Weirwood, a tree with distinctive blood red leaves, and faces carved into them. We've seen it a few times in the series, and now we can see it as a cake. What's perhaps even better about this cake is the fact that I discovered that there is a website dedicated to 'Game of Thrones' food; Inn at the Crossroads is a blog that covers all of your Westeros food needs.
Next up is a cake that's every bit as glamorous as the lady that made it; Rosanna Pansino has her own YouTube show entitled Nerdy Mummies and her own website. On the show she posts videos of her making a variety of computer game and television show inspired cakes, including this 'Game of Thrones' inspired masterpiece showing the dragon eggs before they have hatched. Beautiful and the cake isn't bad either.
From the beautiful to the morbid, this next cake whilst fantastic is a bit bleak. Uploaded onto pinterest.com by Luis Rios, it shows the Iron Throne triumphantly atop a minimalist decoration of ... blood. Although that perhaps makes this particular cake the most in keeping with a series that kills off characters at a whim, a sign of things to come?
And that finishes our culinary exploration of Westeros based sweets, of course there are so many more brilliant cakes out there ranging from a white walker riding a horse, Ned Stark's decapitated head and a Daenerys/Khal Drogo cake topper but unfortunately I can't show you them all because all of this looking at cakes has made me hungry. So I'll leave you with this question, what scenes or key moments from Series 3 would you make into a cake if you could?
