Eamonn Holmes’ most memorable gaffes

Walking PR disaster Eamonn Holmes has struck again, this time asking a female sex addict why she hadn’t considered prostitution.

The host of ‘This Morning’ was interviewing Crystal Warren, who claims to have slept with more than 1,000 men and says she is unable to keep a job due to her addiction.

In reaction to this, Holmes asked, “If you need this five or six times a day, have you never thought about making a business of it? Charging for it?'” 42-year-old Miss Warren was not impressed.

“What, becoming a prostitute?” she said, seemingly undeterred by the shock questioning, “Then it becomes a business, then I become maybe like a robot. This way I am enjoying it, I do it when I want to do it, I get to choose who I sleep with.”

An ITV spokesman later said: “Eamonn's question was in the context of a wider balanced and frank interview and we have had no complaints.”

It’s not the first time Holmes has caused a stir on ‘This Morning. Last October he called Jonathan Wilkes a “retard” after the actor admitted that he wouldn’t be able to find the UK’s three biggest cities on a map.

Holmes apologised to viewers when the show returned after a commercial break and later wrote on Twitter:  “We all make mistakes.”

On another occasion, he was accused of blaming a rape victim for making herself vulnerable to attack. The presenter introduced Hannah Cant by saying:  “She was on her way home from a night out with her friends and walking home – didn’t take a taxi. It’s that old thing, I always say. Why were you tempted to walk home?”

The line of questioning was labelled “as astounding as it is offensive” by Philippa Willitts of women’s rights website F-Word.

Meanwhile, Kay Davies from charity Rape Crisis said: "He was almost putting across that she had been a foolish little girl. I was saddened by it. This is a very, very common attitude that we hear every day of the week.

An ITV spokesperson later said that 26 complaints had been received but added: "Eamonn was in no way suggesting the victim was to blame. Hannah was not offended."

A funnier gaffe came whilst interviewing actress Salma Hayek. She was on the show to promote her campaign to fight tetanus and while explaining her background as “half Lebanese”, Holmes, who seemed excited by what he thought she had said asked, “You’re a lesbian?”

The blundering former ‘GMTV’ presenter has also had his phone go off during an interview and accidentally said “hot tub” instead of “hot hub” while running down what was to happen on the show.
