Coronation Street edits storyline after death of Stone Roses fan

‘Coronation Street’ has had to edit upcoming scenes due to the recent death of Stone Roses’ fan Christopher Brahney.

Brahney went missing after seeing the band play one of three homecoming gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park. His body was found on Monday 9 July at Salford Quays.

The ‘Coronation Street’ scene in question would have involved the discovery of a body in a canal, but producers decided to edit the scene out of respect for the 22-year-old’s grieving family.

An ITV spokesperson said: "What we have removed is multiple references to a body being found in a canal. We have made the change so the finding referenced by a policeman is now broader, simply a body being found, no reference to where.

“Like many others, we were extremely saddened by the news of his death, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family."

Scripted and filmed weeks ago, the scenes from this Friday’s episode concerns missing Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne). A body is found and reported to Peter’s father Ken as someone matching Peter’s description, but it ends up not being his son.

The Stone Roses, who sold out three nights on 29 June, 1 July and 2 July, appealed for help following his disappearance and have since offered their condolences.
