Samantha Womack's child-snatching Ronnie Mitchell is to make her dramatic return to 'EastEnders'.

She will hit the Square after serving time in prison for abducting Tommy Moon.

Womack has been out of the soap for two years following the controversial cot death storyline, in which she swapped her own baby James for Kat Slater's Tommy after discovering that James had died in his bed.

Though she left the soap immediately following the plot's conclusion - which caused widespread outrage among fans of the show - she had in fact quit before finding out about the storyline.

Ronnie will reportedly return to a 'frosty reception' in the Square, particularly from Jack Branning, who she divorced while she was locked up.

She will also have to make amends with her sister Roxy.

“I am thrilled to be returning to the role of Ronnie for the next six months,” she said.

“Ronnie is coming out of prison and her re-appearance in the Square is going to create havoc. I can’t wait to be a Mitchell once again.”

It follows news that Michael French is returning to the cast to play David Wicks, who, apart from a brief cameo last year leading up to the death of Pat Butcher, has been out of the show since 1996. [The Sun]
