The Simpsons' Krusty The Clown Swearing Row: Channel 4 Apologise for Foul-Mouthed Rant

Channel 4 blasted by Ofcom over Krusty the Clown’s pre-watershed expletive

The Simpsons' Krusty The Clown Swearing Row: Channel 4 Apologise for Foul-Mouthed Rant

Channel 4 has escaped censure from Ofcom after apologising for an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ in which Krusty The Clown could be heard saying “bastard”.

The episode was shown in April at 6pm, long before the 9pm watershed.

The channel blamed human error and said it has tightened its controls to guard against a repeat.

It’s not the first time Ofcom have let Channel 4 off with an apology for a spot of ‘Simpsons’ swearing. In 2008, a guest appearance by U2 included the word “w*****s”.

‘The Simpsons’ also appeared at Comic-Con this weekend in a five-minute trailer for a forthcoming special with ‘Family Guy’.

It shows the Griffins arriving in Springfield – no, they still don’t say what state it’s in – and Bart teaching Stewie how to prank-call Moe (Stewie fails desperately).

Homer and Peter getting along well until the latter’s favourite beer is shown to be a rip-off of Homer’s Duff and it all descends into a huge ‘Raiders of The Lost Ark’-style fight.

The hour-long episode airs in the US in September.

Also in September, ‘The Simpsons’ returns to UK screens for its 26th series. And possibly the last for somebody, as the writers have previously promised that one of the major characters will die.

A trailer shows Homer sick and wheezing in bed, with Marge trying to work out how his oxygen mask fits.

Could this be the death of Homer? Unlikely. When the producer Al Jean was asked about the subject last year, he said "We'll be putting out a lot of false leads in the coming months to try to trick people into watching the premiere”.
