Ben Caplan has revealed that PC Peter and Chummy Noakes' marriage will have its struggles in Call The Midwife.
The actor, who plays the policeman opposite comedian Miranda Hart as nurse Chummy, admitted that the new parents' attempts to balance their personal lives with their careers could take its toll in the third series of the BBC period drama.
"They've got a baby and we shall start to see the pressures of them moving into their new home. We see the pressures of being working parents and trying to maintain family life, and there may well be some cracks starting to show in their idyllic relationship," he said.
"Chummy's working all hours doing midwifery and Peter's working nights being a policeman, and it's hard to work out who is going to look after the baby. We'll start to see some interesting things and an interesting dynamic coming into their relationship during the series."
He continued: "Some people from their past come back. It actually happens with a few characters this series - you get to know more about their backgrounds and and their pasts come back to haunt them. I'm not allowed to say too much about that, but it's an exciting time for both of them."
Ben enjoyed reuniting with his screen wife Miranda, saying: "I love the chemistry that Miranda and I have on screen and we have a lot of fun, respect and dedication."
The show, which returned to screens on January 19, celebrated its highest-ever viewing figures.
Ben said: "We are over the moon with the highest viewing figures. I'm a fan of the show. I do love it and my family really love it. It's got all the right ingredients for a Sunday night drama."
Call The Midwife continues on BBC One on Sundays.
