Can Harry Hill’s TV Burp carry on without Harry Hill?

As though the thought of ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp’ coming to end wasn’t saddening enough, the man himself has suggested on Radio 1 that the series could live on with a new presenter.

The hit Saturday night show had grown a little stale with recent series so ending it is probably the right move, but it was such an original and perfectly executed idea that it’s still a shame.

For those who haven’t seen the show, it sees Harry take a satirical look at television and transplanted it into his own bizarre little world of knitted characters, men in drag and endless slapstick fights.

It’s hard to imagine anyone ever replicating that, or even trying.

In the interview on Scott Mill’s show, the presenter named some joke replacements including Ringo Starr, Paula Radclfife and Boyce from ‘Only Fools and Horses’.

Some listeners suggested a couple of more realistic options - James Corden (a terrifying prospect) and Louis Spence (a fabulously terrifying prospect).

We don’t want him replaced for many reasons but here are a few people who could, potentially, have a good crack at filling the void.

Miranda Hart – I can hear the typing of angry/sarcastic/dumb comments already. Think about it though, she does have a few of qualities that the show would require. She’s a bit weird but still thoroughly watchable, much like Harry. She appeals to all age groups as well and could manage the odd-ball style humour and fourth wall-breaking.

Paul O’Grady – Can you tell Miranda was our only good idea? Paul is close to the right mould and he’s under ITV contract but he doesn’t look enough like a caricature to interest the kids. His take on television might be quite funny but his high-pitched old person style of ranting doesn’t really lend itself to light family entertainment.

Gary Barlow
– He’s looking for work right now, right?

Noel Edmonds – Cat, meet pigeons. It’s unlikely that Noel would return to Saturday night television seeing as he’s still riding the wave of success that is ‘Deal or No Deal’ but maybe an old friend could tempt him back...
