The TV personality was taken to hospital in Queensland after falling ill while on the jungle gameshow, but his wife Anne-Marie is said to be demanding to know why bosses kept him on the reality show for so long.

51-year-old Conley, who has spoken previously about his struggle with depression, spent 10 days in the jungle, but was seen breaking down on camera and arguing with the other camp mates.

Though contestants have to pass psychological tests before entering the jungle, ITV's duty of care to those on the show has now been questioned.

A source told The Sun that 'he’s lost a lot of weight and is exhausted. Doctors have prescribed lots of rest until he recovers'.

“Anne-Marie was hugely supportive of Brian’s decision to go on the show, but now you can’t blame her for wishing he hadn’t,” the source added. “She wants to know how this happened and why bosses did not intervene earlier.”

He has now been released from hospital to recover with his family.

A spokesperson for ITV said: “The safety and welfare of our contestants is of paramount importance. All contestants are assessed by independent medical experts.

“We also have contact where necessary with the celebrities’ GPs. Medical personnel are also available 24 hours a day to provide support if it is needed.” [The Sun]
