Amelia returns to X Factor amid fix claims

It's been a turbulent week aboard the good ship 'X Factor' so far and Saturday night's show certainly didn't let us down when it came to choppy waters. The big headline of the night? Pink-haired 19 year-old Amelia Lily being voted back onto the stage by you, the phone-fiddling public. The North East warbler beat off competition from 2 Shoes, James Michael and Jonjo Kerr to replace Fisher Price rock star Frankie Cocozza, after he was booted out by producers earlier in the week.

The news of Amelia's return didn't come as a massive shock to the readers of the website of ITV's Scottish ITV franchise STV though, who had suspiciously read a post a full hour before the announcement revealing the result. The news spread fast and Twitter was soon buzzing with shouts of 'Fix!', though it's more likely that someone accidentally published one of four pre-prepared posts. Everyone loves a conspiracy though, eh...?

That aside, the big-voiced teen said of her second chance:

“I can’t believe I’m back in, it was the most stressful two days of my life, but so worth it!”

Amelia's mentor, the shrieking Kelly Rowland shrieked:

“Girl, you came back and you mean some serious business. And I love it. Welcome fricking back! Bless my cotton socks I am so happy! I have three acts!

Viewers had to wait not only for the Frankie replacement news, but for the whole show to start after a power cut at the BT Tower in London meant that proceedings were delayed a full 15 minutes. To fill up time, we were subjected to an emergency VT including some of the acts we'd tried to forget from before (like that terrible Goldie lady – remember her?). But that long quarter of hour later, Dermot sprung out like a jack-in-a-box in a slightly ill-fitting double breasted suit and we were good to go...

The musical theme for the night was 'Lady Gaga vs. Queen', the most ridiculous theme since, well, last week's incredibly vague 'Floorfillaz'. They didn't even have the common decency to drop a rubbish pun into it and call it 'Radio Gaga'. What a missed opportunity.

Kitty Brucknell was first out with a Jedwardesque coiffure and a cover of 'Don't Stop Me Now'. We saw her crying in some earlier footage because Misha B had already bagsied her first choice of Lady G's 'Born This Way' (as a former Gaga impersonator, you have to feel for the poor lass there). Still, if you ignore the hair, it was a strong showing for the Cheltenham girl.

Craig Colton's 'Paparazzi' was a lot better than his dubious side parting. Tulisa agreed (about the performance, not the side parting – though I'm sure she would agree on that as well), calling it the 'best performance' he'd ever given and 'absolutely beautiful'.

Little Mix's 'Telephone' was a last minute song swap by Tulisa, one which seemed to pay off. All the judges praised the girls, barring Gary 'Interesting' Barlow, who complained that they were 'running out of ideas' and becoming 'predictable'. If Gary Barlow were a pot and Little Mix were four kettles (instead of four girls in pyjamas), that was him calling them black.

Janet Devlin gave a beautifully haunting rendition of Queen's 'Somebody to Love'. Louis and Kelly gushed, but Tulisa rather unfairly came out with:

“My only issue is that your style is a bit one dimensional and for me, I’d have to be in a certain mood to listen to your album.”

We're sure Janet would have to be in a 'certain mood' to listen to an N-Dubz album as well, Tulisa.

Hang on, is 'drunk' a mood?

Marcus Collins' 'Another One Bites the Dust' was arguably the best three minutes of the night. The  favourite to win the competition, Marcus seems to have grow into a real pop star of late, encouraging some real praise from the judges. Louis said:

“You have so much charisma, you light up the stage, you’re going to be here next week, you have to be.”

Misha B reminded Louis of a 'young Chaka Khan' this week (he sure does like that analogy, doesn't he?) with her Kitty-annoying 'Born This Way'.

And finally, Amelia Lily's rendition of 'The Show Must Go On' was impressive, particularly as she would have had very little time to prepare. Unless you believe the conspiracy theorists, that is.

So there you have it. What did you make of Saturday's show? Was it well worth the wait? Or a worryingly wasted watch? We want to know – wow us with your words...
