Former 'The Voice' contestant Bo Bruce has said that any winners of the singing show will be doomed to fail.

The singer blames the BBC's rules and red tape, saying that contestants on 'The X Factor' will always get more backing.

She cited last year's winner Leanne Mitchell as proof of the issues, after both her single and album flopped disastrously following the show.

Her winning single 'Run To You' reached number 45 in the charts, while her album has only sold 895 copies, landing it well outside the top 100.

“I think it was really hard for Leanne after she won. They just put out a single and didn’t really advertise the fact that it was out there and available to buy,” said Bruce.

“Normally you would have a huge marketing campaign before a big release. But you can’t do that when you have won 'The Voice'.

“Being part of the BBC, they can’t be seen to do that. They have far more restrictions. If you look at 'The X Factor', they are allowed to heavily promote an artist or a singer.

“Because of that, they almost always have at least one No 1 single.”

She added that because she didn't win the show, it's been to her advantage.

“If I’m honest, I’m really glad I didn’t win because it meant I could take my time. Personally, I think it is better to be runner-up as there’s less pressure to have an instant hit.” [The Sun]
