Soaps preview: 17 - 21 June

David’s on the edge on ‘Coronation Street’,  Michael’s baby bombshell on ‘EastEnders’ and Declan’s secret is out on ‘Emmerdale’.

Coronation Street
Ah, bless. Kylie and David are really starting to appreciate each other. He’s spent so long looking after her and their unborn baby that she wants to repay him with a romantic weekend away.  So she takes some cash from Nick and plans for the trip – even if her secretive plotting makes David a bit paranoid.

But he wants to treat her well – and decides to surprise her with some flowers. See? Bless their hearts. Only that’s as much loveliness as we’re allowed.  Because as he hides away to surprise her, he hears her chatting with Gail.

Oh dear. And it all comes out. Kylie expresses her desperate hope for the baby to be David’s and not Nick’s and David is left shocked and shattered by what he’s heard. And for Gail to know, not him? Desperate times.

Though this surely means a return of Bad David Platt (hurrah! We’ve missed you Bad David), he doesn’t immediately start lobbing ecstasy tablets in Gail’s tea and running over Kylie. No, he heads off for his trip away.  Kylie is none the wiser as to David’s newfound knowledge - in fact she’s annoyed when he spends the night on the sofa ‘cause it is not turning out to be the romantic weekend away she had planned.

The next day he stands on the edge of a cliff with thoughts of his wife and brother tormenting him and considers his options. Surely this isn’t not so much a cliff as a crossroads. What is he going to do next?

Also this week: After a load of tricks are played on him in the café, Roy keeps an all night vigil in determined to get to the bottom of the ghostly going-ons. It’s almost as if they keep him there for comic relief.

EastEnders
It’s not often we feel sorry for arch-plotter Michael Moon,  particularly after the way he’s treating Alice, but without Janine and Scarlett he’s clearly starting to fray at the edges.

He’s even more edgy when he discovers that he’s not going to see his daughter on her first birthday. So when Alice tells him that Janine is going to the doctors with her, he decides to hang out in the waiting room (why not? Some of those magazines make good reading) with a gift.

Sadly Janine doesn’t show – so Michael is left even more despondent than ever. In fact, he feels so bad that he seeks comfort with Kat. And when he’s left alone cuddling little Tommy, he ends up blurting out that he’s the boy’s dad!

Kat is furious and lays into him but he defends himself saying that he doesn’t want both his children not knowing him.  Heartbreaking stuff.  But not as heartbreaking as when Alfie finds out what has happened and has to find the words to tell Tommy that it’s true – he’s not his real dad. Sniff.

Also this week: Lauren’s drinking has got so bad that Tanya tries to set her up on a date with Peter to look after her.

Emmerdale
Isn’t ‘glamping’ a horrible word? What was wrong with ‘camping’, eh?  If all it takes to shut down ‘glamping’ sites is a dead body, we reckon there should be a few more corpses strewn around these isles.

For that’s what happens to Declan as he’s on the verge of unveiling his new site. Builders uncover some bones – of course we (and Cameron) know why they’re there but Declan is terrified after sinking all his money into the site.

Declan pays the workmen hush money to not mention the bones they have found but he worries what Katie will do, knowing she wants him to report it to the police. He lies to her and says he will.

And things get worse when Katie confides her hurt about his ‘betrayal’ to Chas who assumes Katie knows about Charity and before she knows it  Chas is telling Katie about Declan’s one night stand with Charity.

Katie is distraught by the extent of his dishonesty. And so when there’s an event to get sponsorship for the festival – Katie decides it is the perfect time to make a big announcement and she taps on her glass to gather the whole room’s attention. She has an announcement to make and Declan is soon sweating.

Also this week: Kerry makes a move on Dan and he can’t resist.
