Soap Preview (19 - 23 Mar)

EastEnders

The big news in a nutshell: Ben hits Heather with a picture frame and she dies. The problem is that there's too much going on leading up to it. But fortunately we're here to fill you in on the backstory.

Deep breath...

Ben made up a story to get his dad Phil jailed for murder. Despite the tale being paper thin evidence, the police arrested Phil and everyone seemed convinced he was going to jail. Last week, Ben told Ian that he'd made it up. Ian struck by guilt for no reason at all told the police. Meanwhile Dot gave Heather £1000 on her hen night. Right. You're up to speed.

This week, the police (who really should have either done this before or, you know, found some actual evidence) arrive and ask Ben if he'd made it all up. He confesses and then panics, when he realises Phil is going to come out of jail and geddim.

Ben blames Heather for grassing him up as she was cleaning Ian's house while he told Ian the truth and so heads round there to take some money from her before running away. He knows she has £1000. She actually doesn't have the cash and denies grassing him up. The situation escalates as Jay arrives. Heather tries to stop Ben ransacking the flat. He lashes out with a heavy picture frame and catches her on the head. She catches the other side of her head on the kitchen worktop and that's it: curtains for Heather.

(It really makes you mourn for the good old days of soap murders, when you had an evil rapist bashed with a whisky bottle. You had a good fun whodunnit and moved on. They don't make them like that any more.)

Later on Phil discovers his son is a killer and helps him escape capture. Bless, isn't it nice to see father and son bonding over a shared hobby?

Also this week: It's all about the end of Heather, I'm afraid.

Coronation Street

Teenagers, eh? They'll drive anyone mad. And being step-mum to one drives Sunita into the arms of another man. The problems begin when Sunita and Dev return from a lovely night out to find their house rammed full of drunken students. Amber has thrown a party in their absence. Sunita, loses her cool and lashes out at Amber, which is frankly, fair enough. Imagine coming home to find your house full of students. Terrible.

Anyway, this leads to the (step)mother of all rows as Amber gives as good as she gets. The next day, when the air is cleared, Amber has decided to move out – again, fair enough. But Dev is desperate not to lose her. She decides she'll stay if Sunita apologises. Dev drags her to the pub, where Sunita is sat also expecting an apology. You don't have to be a maths expert to work out that this equation is missing an apology. And instead, in its place, there's another row.

The next night Sunita, sick of Dev and his daughter, arrives back at the pub and announces that she's going to get drunk. She heads to the bistro with Stella (who has man troubles of her own) and good as her word, gets as drunk as a common Peter Barlow. Stella tries to get her home but Sunita gets rowdy and climbs on top of a parked car, she ends up getting herself arrested for a public order offence. You go, girl!

Dev refuses to rescue her from the cop shop. So instead, Karl slips away to pick her up. She shows her gratitude by lunging in for a snog. How will the gambler Karl respond? Will he fold? Or will he go all in?

: The murderer is revealed! Yes, this is the main plot but we dunno who it is (but it must be the mum, must be) so we've not mentioned it.

Emmerdale
While most of the Bartons seem to have made peace with Cain following his rescue of Holly, there's one who can't forget. Adam remains furious that everyone else is letting him off the hook.

He also remains bitter about Andy being farm manager and can't contain his resentment when Moira tells him she's accepted Gaynor Faye's offer for use of the fields. Holly tries to calm him down by taking him to the pub but Adam is furious when in there she thanks Cain for saving her life after the overdose. Adam grabs Holly's arm and tries to move her away, warning Cain to stay away from them.

From then on, all week, it's all “Cain this” and “Cain that” from Adam. Aaron gets so tired of it he snaps and tells him that his mum wasn't an innocent victim. This in turn leads to a row with his mother about whose fault the whole affair was.

Following this row, he drives away to try and find Aaron (who is presumably hiding, concerned about yet another session of Dingle bashing) when he spies Cain working in the garage. He stops to have an argument and Cain riles him, as is his wont. Adam throws a petrol canister at Cain's injured leg, leaving him on the ground with petrol all around him.

Adam wants Cain to beg for mercy – and holds a blowtorch over him. Cain's made of stronger stuff and so Adam in a moment of madness, drops the blowtorch and walks out of the garage. Is this finally it for Cain? Will he actually be flambe-d? What a way to go.
