Smack The Pony set for a comeback? - Daily TV round-up

Sketch show 'Smack The Pony' could be returning to our screens, according to one of its stars.

The all-female ensemble, which comprised Doon Mackichan, Sally Phillips and Fiona Allen, are said to be 'getting a pitch together' for a new series.

“So much has happened to us all, as mothers and women, there’s a lot that is funny about where we are now. There are years of pain to draw on.” said Mackichan, who also starred in classic series including 'The Day Today' and 'Brass Eye'.

“We will have to wait and see what happens and whether they will want to bring it out of the stable. But we would love to get the old nag out again.

“It requires a lot of writing. But we have always been accosted by people who say they want it to come back and so many people have their favourite 'Smack The Pony' sketch.

“Whenever it is repeated I get recognised more in the street.”

The show ran from 1999 to 2003 over three series and two specials on Channel 4. It won an Emmy in 1999 and 2000. [Radio Times]
