Simpsons creator reveals real location of Springfield – Daily TV round-up

Simpsons creator Matt Groening has revealed the real location that inspired the Simpsons’ home of Springfield.

After 23 seasons, which has seen the programme become the longest-running American sitcom, Groening finally named the source behind the much-loved fictional setting - the town of Springfield in Oregon.

The real Springfield is 100 miles south of Matt Groening’s hometown, Portland, also in Oregon, and has a population of 59,000 - 41 of which are named Simpson.

Matt Groening also revealed he was inspired by the TV show ‘Father Knows Best’ which also took place in a town called Springfield.

In addition it’s been revealed that the Simpsons’ home on Evergreen Terrace shares an address with Groening’s childhood home in Portland.

Groening had always given fake answers about the real location to interviewers, even tricking viewers about its vague location throughout episodes in the long-running show.

However he finally made the admission in an interview with Smithsonian Magazine saying he had kept the real location under wraps for so long because he didn’t ‘want to ruin it for people’. [Daily Mail]
