You are in for a real treat over the 11-day Paralympic Games. Viewers will witness great sport with brilliant athletes competing with every bit as much passion and determination and skill as the recent Olympics. To get things under way, check out the opening ceremony conceived by Jenny Sealey and Bradley Hemmings, who directed the film of ‘Billy Elliot’. If it’s half as impressive as Danny Boyle’s exceptional spectacle it will be yet another homage to the wonderful event. The torch relay will complete its journey from Stoke Mandeville Hospital, the 1948 birthplace of the Paralympic movement and the cauldron will be lit. There will also be a fly-past by Aerobility, a charity that trains disabled people to become pilots and performances showcasing the work of deaf and disabled artists; while more than 3,000 volunteers will participate in the show. Jon Snow and Krishnan Guru-Murthy are on presenting duties. It should be excellent.
