more John Bishop’s Big Year (Fri, 9.30pm, BBC1)The incredible rise of the affable everyman comedian from Liverpool continues apace with a two-part special (this week and next) in which he takes a look back at the events of 2012. Picking up the baton from Peter Kay with the Northern working class take on “what’s the deal with xyz?” gentle, inclusive comedy, Bishop has enjoyed enormous success, and this prime-time show featuring stand-up routines, sketches and news clips shows him to good advantage. It’s neither innovative nor challenging stuff, but it’s done with heart and likeability, as John runs his eye over highlights of the year including the Olympics, the Jubilee, the dreadful weather and the ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ phenomenon. He made an absolute fortune from his Christmas DVD last year and this slot on the BBC will no doubt propel sales of his latest live stand-up recording, ‘Rollercoaster’ into the stratosphere. So why not sample his wares for free?
