more Call The Midwife (Sun, 8pm, BBC1)The BBC has a big hit on its hands with ‘Call The Midwife’, whose first series drew in unexpectedly high audiences of over 8.5million. And it showed ‘Downton Abbey’ how it’s done with a Christmas Special that had its upsetting moments but was ultimately heart-warming. A second series finds sweet Jenny, lovably posh Chummy, flighty Trixie and the rest all back to fight the good fight at the East End’s Nonnatus House. As this series opens, it’s 1958 and Jenny and the gals are off to ‘South Pacific’ for a birthday pictures treat – but there’s not a lot of romance on display when she goes to see a young mum who is married to a vile, violent pig. Elsewhere, Trixie and tough old bird Sister Evangelina have to help a pregnant woman on a Swedish cargo ship. More excellent stuff with a talented and engaging cast, just the right blend of nostalgia, sentimentality and a touch of grit make this a cert to run for a long time.
