The decision (due to a production move) to relocate the school to Glasgow seems far-fetched even for ‘Waterloo Road’. But fans will go along with it happily enough, as head teacher Michael (Alec Newman) returns to his native Scotland to set up a new school at the Greenock Academy. A former student of his, Lorraine (Daniela Denby-Ashe), has become a multimillionaire with a passion for investing in education, but her business-drive will come into conflict with Michael’s idealism. New characters include Christine, who teaches English and likes a drink – she’s played by Laurie Brett, who was Jane Beale in EastEnders. Georgie Glen joins the cast as no-nonsense history teacher Audrey, while there’s sure to be tension with the headmaster of a nearby school, played by Alex Norton.
