From outrageous comedian and shock celebrity interviewer, Ruby Wax has become an unlikely and passionate advocate for mental health causes and recently toured with a stage show about her clinical depression in which she encouraged audiences to speak about their own experiences. In this film, she sets out to challenge taboos about mental illness and the stigmas surrounding it. She travels to the Houses of Parliament to talk to MPs and visits The Priory, where she herself has had treatment. She also meets fellow sufferers, including chef Johnnie Mountain, who recently walked off ‘The Great British Menu’. It’s a noble cause and makes for an insightful documentary, albeit that Ruby is not to all tastes. “I've become the poster girl for mental health,” she says. Not too sure about that, but good to see these issues being tackled with honesty, vigour and humour.
