Say what you like about the BBC, there’s nobody else with the resources and talent to take on a project as massive and impressive as this. All manner of wonderful and fascinating creatures, from Kenyan baby elephants to meerkats in South Africa, lions of the Masaai Mara, black bears in Minnesota, macaque monkeys in Sri Lanka and the grey whales of the Pacific are featured. The cinematography is often a match for ‘Frozen Planet’, while younger or more excitable viewers will enjoy the narrative drive and drama that the stories are given, in the style of ‘Springwatch’ or ‘Big Cat Diaries’. Accessibility is further increased by the presentational pairing of Julia Bradbury and Richard ‘The Hamster’ Hammond. The lions of Southern Kenya, previously featured in ‘Big Cat Diaries’ probably win the prize for most awesome, but those baby black bears in the USA are the most adorable. Lovely stuff.
