Rock Rivals

Rock Rivals

Read an interview with Rock Rivals' Holly Quin-Ankrah and Luke Ellis...

It's the grand final of ITV1's Rock Rivals tonight at 9pm. Who wins? You decide! That's right, viewers have been voting all week to decide the outcome of the drama in a TV first.

If you missed the series (and shame on you if you did!) you can watch the whole thing when it comes out on DVD next week. We caught up with Bethany Hopkins, who plays by Holly Quin-Ankrah and Luke Ellis, who plays Sol Heras to talk about the show...

How did you land the part in the show?

Sol: I’d just got back from Spain and wanted to get into acting. I found an agency in the paper, got them to take me on and a week later I had my first audition – which was for Rock Rivals. I somehow managed to land the part.

Holly: I started acting when I was 14 and I did five years of Grange Hill. I originally went for the part of Dana and after I had my singing audition they asked me to read for Bethany. I had two recalls and then I got the part.

Are you anything like your characters?

Sol: Well, Luke is also new to the industry he wants to get involved in so that's similar to me in some ways. It was all new to me too and I think it was easy to get that across.

Holly: No, I’m quite easy-going and I don’t throw tantrums. I’m ambitious like she is and that’s what I liked about her. She’s knows what she wants and goes to get it.

What’s been your favourite storyline?

Sol: I think you've got to love the stalker Felix and the rubber doll. When I first read that I thought ‘what the hell am I letting myself in for here?’ But thankfully Adam Leese, who plays Felix, has done so well with the character that he really brought the whole thing to life. Am I worried about getting a real-life fan like that? Yes!

Holly:
I liked the storyline where I got poisoned and I had to throw up while singing. That was fun to film. I loved the arguments with my mum and all the tantrums too.

Holly, how would you cope with a mum like Lynette?

Holly: Probably worse than Bethany did. It would be a nightmare. Luckily my mum is really chilled out, laidback and has never been a pushy mum.

The outcome of the show will be decided by a public vote. Are you excited about that?

Sol: I think my mum’s more excited than me about that. Why should viewers vote for Luke? Because he’s the best. He’s a good guy.

Holly: Yes, I am. I think it will be quite fun. I won’t find out who wins until I watch it so that will be exciting. Viewers shoudl vote for Bethany if they think she deserves it – she’s grown up, she’s had a bit of a journey and she’s dealt with a lot of stuff and I think she comes out of it very well.

The show ends on a cliffhanger – will it be back?

Sol: I’ve no idea. I think that’s up to the powers above.

Holly: Who knows? It’s totally out of my hands. If it goes ahead we’re all contracted for another series and there’s definitely room for it because of the cliffhanger but we’ll just have to wait and see.

What are you up to next?

Sol: I’m appearing in a film – it’s a psychological thriller called Splintered. We’ve just started filming and it should be out by the end of the year. I’m also going to sign up with an agent in LA and I’m waiting for my visa and then I hope to go out there and get some work.

Holly:I’m auditioning and I’m moving to London very soon. I’m up and down all the time to auditions and meetings so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Rock Rivals is released on DVD on 28 April
