Fan backlash over X Factor winner’s single 2011 rumour

Damien Rice fans are outraged at rumours surrounding the ‘X Factorwinner’s single 2011.

Show insiders have hinted that ‘X Factor’ bosses are seriously considering using Damien Rice’s hit song ‘Cannonball’ as their new winner’s single for 2011.

Rice’s number is said to be a firm favourite with producers after contestant John Adams impressed Gary Barlow with the track at auditions.

However, it certainly isn’t a favourite with fans of the singer as Twitter has been riddled with negativity surrounding the rumour.

@KellyAllen’s furious tweet “Damien Rice Cannonball is one of my favourite songs... so of course it will be ruined by X Factor” was damning of both the song choice and the ‘X Factor’ finalists’ talent.

A scathing @aoifeniblock vented that she was “fully disgusted that Canonball is the XFacor winners single. Damien Rice has a one in a billion voice, itll never be even half as good!” (sic).

@SeanUSX was fairly apocalyptic in his outrage at the idea tweeting, “This is, quite possibly, the end of the world... 'X-Factor' winner set to cover Damien Rice's 'Cannonball'?”

Meanwhile some fans of ‘The X Factor’ are also unhappy with @GemmaDiaper threatened to turn her back on the show saying, “Cannonball is frontrunner to be XF winners song. If this happens... I'll disown @TheXFactor #nojoke”

Last year Matt Cardle experienced a backlash from the indie scene when he released a cover of Biffy Clyro’s ‘Many Of Horrors’, which he renamed ‘When We Collide.’ Several years earlier Leonard Cohen fans were so outraged by Alexandra Burke’s cover of ‘Hallelujah’ that they managed to get the original song back into the Top 10 in the same week after a large online campaign.

Rumour has it that the final four ‘X Factor’ acts have already recorded their versions of three different tracks for bosses to choose from. ‘Cannonball’ is currently the favourite according to those close to the show.

Earlier in the year it was reported that Gary Barlow has also written a song which may be released by the winner.
