'Coronation Street' star Chris Fountain has been suspended from the soap after it emerged he had made offensive rap music and posted it online.

The 25-year-old star, who has played Tommy Duckworth in the show since 2011, appears on videos under an alter-ego called The Phantom.

Wearing a Halloween mask, a hoodie and baseball cap, Fountain raps lyrics about violence and rape.

Among the lyrics are lines including 'I will f*** anybody up in the worst way, rape a b**ch on her birthday' and 'I’m a motherf***ing demon, I’ll stab you in the face with a diseased needle'.

He has now been suspended from the show.

A statement from programme bosses read: “ITV find the language used and the views expressed in this video totally unacceptable.

“Chris Fountain has been suspended pending further inquiries into this matter.”

Fountain has since said he is ashamed of the video.

“I would like to sincerely apologise for any offence I have caused,” he said. “I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behaviour.

“The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music and I’ve not done anything like it since, nor will I.” [Daily Mirror]
