Snakes On A Task

The Apprentice's Simon Smith

OK, now we're confused. Only last week we were saying that it seemed Sir Alan had a soft spot for Simon and that the ex-squaddie could do no wrong - and now just one week later he's been fired!

To make matters worse, Sir Alan fired Simon over Alex and Claire (more about those two in a moment) - what is going on?

To be fair, it was a disastrous task for Simon with his team managing to lose money - their photography business having to turn customers away after a mix-up over order numbers. But just how big a part did Alex and Claire play in his downfall?

Last night saw those two - favourites of ours earlier in the series - show their true colours as total snakes. Alex was shirking responsibility right from the start of the task when Simon wanted to appoint him as deputy. This is despite his own declaration that he is the strongest person in the contest! If Alex really is that talented, he's been hiding it well. It was also interesting to see Alex turn on Claire in the boardroom when he thought his own position was in danger. Sir Alan, please see through the sad eyes and pretty boy looks and fire him!

Like Alex, Claire was obstructive throughout the task and seemed to be enjoying it when everything started to go wrong for Simon. Margaret (who appeared to be in a foul mood last night - go Margaret!) got it spot on when she commented that Claire had treated Simon like dirt. So why would Sir Alan want someone like that working for him? It will be interesting to see how she copes next week as team-leader. The others looked less than thrilled at this news.

The Lucinda bullying continued last night with Helene taking her turn to pick on the softly spoken, beret-wearing one. Is anyone going to step in and defend her? And what's wrong with Raef? He spoke about two words last night. We're heard of keeping your head down in the early stages but this is ridiculous.

Are you as shocked as we are to see Simon out of the contest? How did Alex and Claire manage to escape this time? And with Simon gone, who is your favourite to win now?

I felt really sorry for Simon being bullied by Claire - yes, that is what she is - a bully. Simon would have done better to have done a test with one photograph before proceeding to take a series of photos. Having been in the army he is well disciplined. Helene too is a scheming witch - she was the one telling lies.

It should have been claire that got fired, in the real world (and this is SUPPOSED to be for a real job) then she would have at least been reprimanded for her behaviour! Don't want to watch it anymore, they're all hopeless!!

Simon should not have been fired. I think he was polite, enthusiastic and demonstarted great integrity, unlike his counterparts who were needlessly bitchy, condescending and untruthful. Of course it makes great entertainment in today's media circus. I think Simon is better off out of that negative situation.

You could see right from the start that both Claire and Alex wanted Simon to lose this project as team leader, they gave him no backing what so ever, but i thank sir alan will see right through these two and they will last about as long as a snowflake in summer. The dead wood stage is coming to take them away.

Simon should not have gone at all, Claire is a disater and has no sense of team spirit at all, She really needs to take a long hard look at herself and think about how to talk to and treat people. Alex will soon show his colours to Sir Alan there is no way that he could lead a task.

Big mistake to fire Simon. I mean he may not be what Sir Aln is after, but then surely Alex and Claire aren't either? All of them may get fired at some point over the course, but it shoud not have been Simon last night. I think Sir Alan is a fairly good judge of character but this one he messed up on big time. Still, if people will put themselves forward for such a reality show they need to accept the consequences. For me, I would have fired Claire. Also, don't you think it's toime Sir Alan saw what we see? Surely then he could make a more informed opinion?

I feel that Simon had no chance whatsoever from the start of that task. Sir Alan should have seen that was a set up. Surely in his own business he needs his staff to support each other, it only works if you have team work. I wish he had sacked Alex and Claire. Simon was supportive in all the tasks he was set. He should be reinstated. You are only as good as your support team, he did not have one.
