Strictly's Tom facing backlash over phone vote fiasco

Strictly Come Dancing's Tom Chambers

Holby City star Tom Chambers is facing an angry backlash from some Strictly Come Dancing viewers who believe he should not be in Saturday night's final.

The actor was given a pass through to the final after the BBC abandoned the phone vote last weekend.

All three couples were allowed through when it became clear that viewers voting for Tom would be unable to save him from the dance-off, due to the tie between Lisa and Rachel at the top of the leaderboard.

Originally votes from last weekend were to be carried over to the final but they now won't be counted and the BBC are offering a refund to anyone who voted.

However, many fans of the series are unhappy that Tom will feature in the final and some are calling for him to do the honorable thing and step down, reports the Daily Mirror.

A show insider told the paper: "Things have turned sour for Tom since Saturday. He and Camilla wanted to get through properly, not be given a free ride. They feel they could have won a dance-off.

"Camilla is really upset and has been crying. She doesn't want anyone to think they have cheated in any way."

Do you think Tom deserves his place in the final? Let us know what you think...

I think the votes should be carried over, in reality how many people will claim their money back? Tom is a really good dancer and I would like to see him win, good luck to him and Camilla, I hope they do a dance that will knock the judges socks off and not take any risks.

Rachel was the winner all the way. Iam so sad that I even phoned for the entire duration of voting time and the line was constantly engaged. Of course it was a fix. Tom was clearly better than Lisa but shouldn't have taken the cup. Great dancer in his own right but Rachel was the star.

If its to be a serious competition then wouldn't it be preferable if the judges were more proffessional and the unknowledgable, unskilled public weren't allowed to vote. Its entertainment and in its current format popularity will surely figure strongly in the voting, contestants should be prepared for that and stop sour graping!!!!! Tom was pretty consistant from the start, good luck to him! John and Austin votes were hardly fair if skill alone came into it!

Tom's showdance was absolutely brilliant and far surpassed that of Rachael and her partner.

Scores should have been Rachel to win with a very close runner up from either Austin Or Tom. Lisa was clearly only in the finals for her tricks. She is not a natural dancer like the other three. My only consolation is that Rachel lost to Tom & not Lisa. Austin should have been in the top three. What ever. It's all polotics and it's shame cos I love the dancing. Sort it out Bruce

The whole issue of phone votes needs to be looked at again. John Sergeant stayed in for no other reason than that he was popular. Christine Blakeley (whom I like very much) was only in because she appears every weeknight on BBC 1 on the One Show. This is why I know her, and why many people voted for her. It had nothing to do with her dancing. When it came to the final it was patently obvious that Tom was not in the same league as the two @#$% - but he won - for no other reason than that he is a well loved star in Holby City. The dancing was entertaining, but had little or nothing to do with the final result. The final result should be left with the judges, not the public.

Tom and Cammilas dance off was the best dance in the series . I am amazed at the comments made by ARLENE WHEN HAVING SUCH HIGH PRAISE FOR THEIR FEE STYLE DANCE ON THE NIGHT. Only Len Goodman was honest and said he preffered Toms dance to Rachels with denigrating her dance which he said was wondeful. Perhaps te judges need to put the points where they put ther mouths and restrain from showing their favouritism , Impartiality should be the key. Any way I loved each programme and YES Tom was a worthy winner , in the absense of John Sargent

Despite the controversy over the voting I feel Tom's show dance was much more entertaining than Rachel's and I feel he deserved to win overall.
