Strictly's Tom facing backlash over phone vote fiasco

Strictly Come Dancing's Tom Chambers

Holby City star Tom Chambers is facing an angry backlash from some Strictly Come Dancing viewers who believe he should not be in Saturday night's final.

The actor was given a pass through to the final after the BBC abandoned the phone vote last weekend.

All three couples were allowed through when it became clear that viewers voting for Tom would be unable to save him from the dance-off, due to the tie between Lisa and Rachel at the top of the leaderboard.

Originally votes from last weekend were to be carried over to the final but they now won't be counted and the BBC are offering a refund to anyone who voted.

However, many fans of the series are unhappy that Tom will feature in the final and some are calling for him to do the honorable thing and step down, reports the Daily Mirror.

A show insider told the paper: "Things have turned sour for Tom since Saturday. He and Camilla wanted to get through properly, not be given a free ride. They feel they could have won a dance-off.

"Camilla is really upset and has been crying. She doesn't want anyone to think they have cheated in any way."

Do you think Tom deserves his place in the final? Let us know what you think...

Tom deserves to be there, It is an unfortunate situation caused by John's resignation and a fluke in the scores. Instead of both being given 3 points the top two should have been given 2 points each so making it possible for Tom to avoid the dance off. I personally don't think a dance off is fair in the semi-finals anyway.

Its ridiculous that Tom has gone through. Why nodance off last week? everyone else has had to do it. Now he stands to win on purely the public vote. Why didn't the two contestants during the week Mr Sareant left go through to the next round. That really would have been fair and Austin would s till be in and have a chance to win!! I'm livid with the whole thing. Good luck to Lisa I say.

Surely there should be 3 couples in the final week. It would have been better if no one else had left the week that John Sargeant retired from the contest. It will be far more interesting with 3 rather than 2. For goodness sake let's lighten up!! from Wynn

tom very very definately deserves to be in the final. he puts his heart and soul into every dance and unlike the other two finalists he has to take the lead and can not be lead around the dance floor like the other two finalists. good luck tom.

Tom totally deserves to go through to the final. It would have been unfair to continue the vote last week, as part of the rules of the show state that the viewer gets half the vote - if that vote makes no difference, as it would not have done last week, then that vote becomes null and void. The Beeb did absolutely the right thing. Looking forward to Lisa going out third, and a Tom and Rachel final two.

Tom is by far the most entertaining dancer, I think the judges are unfair in making their stupid mistakes that reflect on the poor contestant.

The last show really should have been the "Final", following Sargeants walk off. Because the Beeb did not want to shorten the shows' run or change the "Finals'" format (and call me cynical) I believe the fiasco of the last weeks show to have been considered their best way out of the problem. And Tom? Lets face it, on last weeks performance - had it been the Final - he would have ben out anyway.
