Pushing Daisies Gets Red Card

Anna Friel in Pushing Daisies

Viewers are up in arms after news that ITV has decided to skip straight to episode three of Pushing Daisies so that the end of the series doesn't clash with Euro 2008.

The first episode of the US drama, which stars British actress Anna Friel, debuted last weekend with 5.7 million viewers.

Now angry fans of the show are bombarding online forums with complaints after it was revealed that ITV are not showing the second episode.

There are nine episodes in the first series of the fantasy drama and ITV have only eight weeks in the schedule before the start of the football tournament.

An ITV spokesperson said: "Episode two was the only show we could drop without spoiling the storyline."

We think this decision shows a total disregard for viewers. Couldn't they have scheduled a double-bill one week or screened the final episode earlier or later in the evening to avoid a clash with the football? Why promote a series so heavily and then treat it like this?

What do you think of the decision? Did you watch the first episode and will this make you less likely to continue watching the series? Let us know what you think...

It's time TV companies realised that some of us actually detest football.

Who cares about football anyway. ITV makes so much money from screening the football, its all about the money...money grabbing scoundrels. Sport ruins so much good television, I'm sick of it.

I haven't seen the first episode yet, but really looking forward to it. ITV is treating it shabbily, especially appalling seeing as it is a ratings winner for them. Although I love Football, its all Money Money Money, and no consideration for the viewing public. Perhaps playing the episode after a match, or on ITV2, 3 or 4. Not a surprise though, as ITV are constantly playing catchup on Saturday nights with the BBC, now that Doctor Who is back on our screens.

Hi, I watched it but only the last half, thought it was very witty and very surreal. A very interesting and entertaining programme for a Saturday night. Too bad they are messing with episodes already due to the stupid football, not everyone enjoys football being rammed down their necks.

I think thats discusting why should the tv stop a show that has had such high ratings for a football match that could go on any other channel. Ok fair enough some viewers love the football but I was really looking forward to the next in the series of that show is it going to be shown online at all?

Yes I agree. It is totally outrageous!! ITV should have scheduled a double first episode. It’s still not too late to schedule a double last episode though

I watched the first episode and yes I do think the decision to skip an episode is stupid. Quoting "Episode two was the only show we could drop without spoiling the storyline.".... well why was episode 2 there in the first place if it was irrelevant to the shows storyline anyway?! I agree with the suggestions that ITV could schedule a double-bill or a later screening of the final episode after the football.... surely anyone who has then therefore followed the entire series will watch the final episode anyway! Also yes, i do feel like i'll be less likely to continue watching the series after watching the first episode!
