Britain's Got Talent returned to ITV at the weekend and proved to be a ratings smash with more than 8 million viewers. But can it match last year's series and find another worldwide sensation like Paul Potts?
The show seems to have morphed into The X Factor since we last saw it - Simon Cowell is even using some of the same lines. If we all had a pound for every time he has declared someone 'the worst singer he has ever heard', then we'd all be as rich as he is. Well, almost.
There was definitely some genuine talent on display in the first episode, along with some true eccentrics and some acts that were just plain wrong.
74-year-old Joan and her neighbour Jim fall into the latter category with their act in which leotard-clad Joan broke a slab of concrete over Jim's back using a sledgehammer. Normally you would get an ASBO for doing that sort of thing to the people who live next door.
Teenager Kate and her dog Gin were another eccentric pair. The fun with animal acts is usually waiting for it all to go wrong, so there was total disbelief from the judges and audience when the pair performed an incredible dance routine. We think Gin is our favourite act so far and is definitely a strong contender to win the series.
There was no doubting the talent of contortionist Iona Luvsandorj, however, would anyone actually want to pay to watch such an eye-watering display? We found her whole act quite difficult to watch.
Most of the talk of the first episode has been about schoolboy Andrew Johnston who told the judges he was bullied for singing classical music and then wowed them with a performance which had Amanda Holden reaching for the tissues. Let's just hope his voice doesn't break before the next round!
What did you think of the first show? Who are your favourites to win?

Posted by: dunkindino2 on Tue Apr 15 05:09PM | Report abuseDo we really want a classical singer to win AGAIN!... I mean Paul Potts won last year, isn't that enough!?!... I think a performing act should win this year...for a change! [I HATE Amanda Holden! She does my head in!]

I feel that this show is a let down as you know who is going to go though to the next round before the panal do!! i cant belive that Simon Cowell has never seen a DOG Dance? has he never seen crufts on TV? They do all sorts of Dog dancing on there!!! Who has the talent the Dog or the little Girl?
Posted by: martychuzzy76 on Thu Apr 17 04:46PM | Report abuseThe boy who was or said he was bullyied has told a newspaper his mum told him to tell the panel he was being bullyied this was before we knew he cfould sing? Why did he have to say such a thing as we all knew he could sing as soon as he opened his mouth!!! Amanda Holden is a useless judge!!! she always is crying!!! The look on Simon's face, I thought he was going to thow up!! I am sure we will see better later on in the series? Yes he was good but not outstanding because his voice will be braking soon! AGE 13??!!!
Posted by: martychuzzy76 on Thu Apr 17 04:53PM | Report abusegin the dog was amazing, after the @#$% animal acts we normally see 9remeber last year with the line dancing dogs) but katie didnt get ANY CREDIT! i mean how much work she must of put in to training that dog boggles the mind.

Posted by: magicsparklerfizzles on Thu Apr 17 06:32PM | Report abuseOh dear.... I think we are all being manipulated. Andrew sings in a cathedral choir and wears choristors outfits but he turns up on Britains got talent looking like he's been hanging out on an estate. Its a shame the shows producers etc thought it necessary to do this because I am sure it would be more enjoyable to watch the auditions without the spin.
Posted by: tonyandbecs on Thu Apr 17 08:06PM | Report abuseI thought the show was called Britain's got Talent? Why is there a filipino lady (who has an amazing voice I must admit) in the contest? This is not a racist/sexist comment, just a simple question. Wasn't the idea to find if Britain had home grown talent, not just foreign nationals who happen to live in this country?
