A Dog's Dinner

Ian Stringer

Ian couldn't bring himself to say, or even spell, the word 'loser' but last night he became one after Sir Alan fired him from The Apprentice.

Ian and Kevin were equally useless - in fact, if we'd been Sir Alan we think we would have fired both of them.

It was always going to be between this pair as soon as they got into the boardroom. Simon was there too but it's obvious Sir Alan has a soft spot for him, however, he's clearly going to have to do more than 'cut up onions' over the coming weeks to remain in his favour. Expect Simon to be appointed teamleader in a task very soon.

Bank Manager (and Matt Lucas lookalike) Kevin was quick to volunteer for the position of head chef because he's eaten in Italian restaurants - not the best of qualifications for the job. The alarm bells started to ring when he struggled to name the ingredients for a carbonara and wanted to charge £4.95 for a bowl of soup 'because that's what it costs in Guildford'.

Pouty Ian struggled to manage the team - he began the task by going round the guys and asking them to give him their commitment (Raef gave 110% as usual), but by the time they opened the pub kitchen for business he had lost any grip he ever had on them. He sulked in the corner after Kevin decided to give the team a pep talk and later denied this had ever happened in the boardroom.

Ian had managed to keep his head down in previous weeks and avoid Sir Alan's scrutiny but as team leader his flaws were exposed. We don't think Kevin will go very far in the competition either, unless running a kitchen is the one area in which he lacks expertise. We doubt that.

So, what about the girls? We had been expecting fireworks between Lucinda and Jenny following last week's boardroom showdown but it never happened. Jenny wisely kept a low profile this week and it was Claire, an early favourite of ours, who stood out in the girls' side - for all the wrong reasons. Claire seems to have some issues with being managed and clashed with teamleader Sara, who in all fairness seemed to do a pretty good job. Also, anyone else notice that Claire never takes off that pearl necklace? She even had it on when she got out of the shower? What's going on there?

Let us know what you thought of the latest task. Would you have sacked Ian? Or did Kevin deserve to go? Have you got any favourites to win the series?

Ian couldnt manage a thrash party at a naturist colony. What skills does he think he has? I could see none. What a joke. Kevin was equally as stupid but didnt deserve the finger pointing from Ian saying he had "delgated". Delgation my a*se. Go back to whatever you do and leave the boardroom to the big @#$%. Imbecile.

I agreed with this verdict. Ian couldn't handle the team, to go round the room asking do I have your committment, shows a sign of wekaness to strat with. He was givemn the team lead role by Sir Alan, irrespective of what the hers might have felt nothing was going to change. Surely from the outset, what ingredients were required and how much they wouyod cost should have eben the first ask and go wholesale, not down the hight street to buy them. Finally once it was all over to blatantly lie to try and save face, he was always going to be fired. A very weak attempt of team lead skills and management, good luck to Ian in his alternative career.

Can I get a job that pays six figures by constantly reiterating that "I'll give 110%"? How about "lightbulb thinking"?

Ian was a shocking Team Leader, he was completely out of his depth. The task was lost at the outset when they paid too much for the supplies, and he showed no initiative whatsoever. A Complete joke!

Never mind Claire's necklace - did nobody notice that Jenny answered the early morning call in a blanket and one of her ridiculous 'designer' scarves? Clearly they never leave her neck, I reckon its to hide the teeth marks which prove she is a real life vampire. Will the woman stop at nothing to prove to the nation that she is upper middle class? Chanel scarves may be expensive love, but that don't make em' classy, and they don't make you classy either, now return them to your grandma, there's a good @#$%. Jenny is a jumped up little bully and needs taking down a peg or two, if she spoke to me like a school @#$% (as she does to one particularly unfortunate person) I'd pull her scarf so tight she'd soon change her tone of voice...

Kevin a Bank Manager - my arse. 1. He can't count and 2. He can't count! Oh, and 3. he couldn't run a bath far less a kitchen. 15 Tomato's for 1 bowl of soup; he bought everything else from Morrisons why didn't he just buy 20 tins of Ministrone? Should have been booted without question. Ian's turnover was high but the Bank Manager didn't manage his costs nor did he support his boss. What's his bank thinking about the lying little toad now. Is Kevin the only gay in the village?

i dont think he should have gone. kevin should have gone by messing the ingrediants up etc...as head chef that was his responcibilty and not ians...hence the fact kevin was given the 'head chef' role!!! Once in the boardroom kevin was arrogant and obnoxious im looking forward to seeing my old managers true colours coming out!!

Would have fired Ian and Kevin. Both useless. Ian had no control over them, and Kevin shouldn't have been the chef when he had no idea! Simon shouldn't have been in the boardroom, he was great!

It's just great to see these preening, self-important tossers being made to get sweaty and flustered and lose their cool over tiny issues ('no tin-opener, black plastic bags!'). What is clear already is that there is alot more scape-goating going on at this early stage, irrespective of genuine blame. Good to see the weaker/less interesting members being jettisoned early on in favour of the more forceful/madder ones.
