Emmerdale Exodus

Emmerdale's Donna Windsor

Is there trouble in the Dales? Newspaper reports today suggest that another two Emmerdale stars are set to leave the show - making that five departures in just two weeks.

Today's Sun claims that Verity Rushworth, who has played Donna Windsor for more than ten years, and Jenna-Louise Coleman, who plays Jasmine Thomas, are both planning to take extended breaks from the series when their current contract ends.

Their departures follow news last week that both Grayson and Johnny will be leaving the soap, along with newcomer Miles who looks set to be killed off later this year.

The cast exodus is being blamed on new series producer Anita Turner after claims that her arrival has led to low morale on set.

The arrival of a new producer often signals a major shake-up in soapland - who can forget Brian Park's arrival at Coronation Street in the late 90s and his decision to axe a load of major characters? At the time it was shocking, but he helped to revive the show by clearing out the deadwood and introducing some great new characters and storylines.

The challenge for Emmerdale will be finding new characters who will connect with the viewers. Let's just hope they don't get a new family as terrible as Coronation Street's Mortons!

What do you think about these Emmerdale departures? Are there any other characters you would like to see leave the series? Or maybe some older characters you'd like to see return?
