Hankies at the ready! It's been revealed that Coronation Street legend Vera Duckworth will be killed off when actress Liz Dawn leaves the show early next year.
Originally it was thought that the door would be left open for the character to return for occasional one-off appearances but now, following discussions between Liz and the producers, it's been decided that Vera will die.
Liz Dawn revealed earlier this year that she was leaving the show due to ill health.
Corrie insiders are staying tight-lipped about how exactly Vera will meet her maker, however, it's been revealed that three different endings will be filmed. Viewers will get to see the emotional scenes in January.
Last year saw another longterm Coronation Street character - Mike Baldwin - killed off. Will the show be able to survive as the Street's most famous residents leave one-by-one?
