The Apprentice's Nicholas De Lacy Brown

- Watch video: This year's candidates

From the opening moments of last night's Apprentice it was clear that we had another bunch of jumped-up, arrogant, cringeworthy know-it-alls battling for a job with Sir Alan - in other words we are in for another excellent series.

Ian can't even bring himself to say the word 'loser', Jennifer rates herself as 'the best salesperson in Europe', Claire says she likes to crash through everything like her family's german shepherd dog and scary Sara doesn't like to beat her opposition, she likes to thrash them.

The first task saw the group split into male and female teams and given a load of fish to sell at a London market. Easy? Well, no. The teams struggled to tell their Monkfish from their Sea Breams and ended up selling the fish at a fraction of the actual value.

Other highlights of the first episode included sulky Ian pursing his lips and declaring that he hated losing, Lucinda's kooky dress sense (do health and safety regulations allow people to sell fish wearing a purple woollen beret?) and, of course, Raef's hair - what's that all about?

The award for best line has to go to Sir Alan's sidekick Nick who asked the boys' team "Did it strike anybody that a £5 lobster is bloody cheap?"

The boardroom showdown saw the girls triumph and drippy boys' team leader Alex chose to take Nicholas and Raef back into the boardroom with him.

Things quickly escalated into a class war with Nicholas declaring that the group had split into the educated and the non-educated.  Alex was quick to point out that he also had a university degree which led Nicholas to point out more differences between the boys - he likes to talk about arts and culture and they like to talk about football apparently. The writing was really on the wall for Nicholas at that point and Sir Alan rightly fired him.

Nicholas thinking it was unacceptable to have a B in french for his GCSE so he couldn't be a straight A student was aweful. Incapable of identifying a large lobster from a small lobster was shameful....common sense really! Had no idea why they would try and sell the remaing fish in a solicitor office!!! ....a restaurant would have been a sensible idea!

It angers me at the mentality these so called 'educated' breed posess. I would much rather a person with a bit of experience and personal skills than someone with lots of paper A's up his sleeve.....tut tut NicoLOSS!

I'm 58 and have been a teacher all my life, however, I'm sure I could do a better job than the candidates last night. There's no chance for me and my fantastic colleagues to have a 6 digit salary. To think the group on display last night could be given that opportunity is, quite frankly an insult to all hardworking individuals.

Nicholas may have made mistakes along with others....but surely the buck stops with the Manager....why wasn't he Managing? I know a couple of 8 year old kids who sold homemade lemonade last year and turned over a 4,089% profit in one day. All brains and no common sense comes to mind! Can't wait for next week!!

Dear God! Is our future in these prats' hands? They must have been picked for sensational T.V. - certainly not for intelligence. They were 'given' an education, but they certainly did not 'learn' anything useful.

The first episode & those to come are simply an expansion of those who sit in the Palace Of Westminster. Gordon Brown now is similar to a Caesar, who thought of their nrole as Emperors as gods. Experimentation with human embryo & embryo plus animal embryo are the subjunctive ambition of the likes of Lord Winston. Alan Sugar knows that arrogance is the detriment to wisdom. When will ability & honesty become the criterium for office ????
