The Apprentice's Nicholas De Lacy Brown

- Watch video: This year's candidates

From the opening moments of last night's Apprentice it was clear that we had another bunch of jumped-up, arrogant, cringeworthy know-it-alls battling for a job with Sir Alan - in other words we are in for another excellent series.

Ian can't even bring himself to say the word 'loser', Jennifer rates herself as 'the best salesperson in Europe', Claire says she likes to crash through everything like her family's german shepherd dog and scary Sara doesn't like to beat her opposition, she likes to thrash them.

The first task saw the group split into male and female teams and given a load of fish to sell at a London market. Easy? Well, no. The teams struggled to tell their Monkfish from their Sea Breams and ended up selling the fish at a fraction of the actual value.

Other highlights of the first episode included sulky Ian pursing his lips and declaring that he hated losing, Lucinda's kooky dress sense (do health and safety regulations allow people to sell fish wearing a purple woollen beret?) and, of course, Raef's hair - what's that all about?

The award for best line has to go to Sir Alan's sidekick Nick who asked the boys' team "Did it strike anybody that a £5 lobster is bloody cheap?"

The boardroom showdown saw the girls triumph and drippy boys' team leader Alex chose to take Nicholas and Raef back into the boardroom with him.

Things quickly escalated into a class war with Nicholas declaring that the group had split into the educated and the non-educated.  Alex was quick to point out that he also had a university degree which led Nicholas to point out more differences between the boys - he likes to talk about arts and culture and they like to talk about football apparently. The writing was really on the wall for Nicholas at that point and Sir Alan rightly fired him.

If that's what an education does for you, you can keep it ... Wake up and live in the real world.

am glad he was fired first arrogant prat, and all self praise he gave himself made him look so stupid the poor guy doesn't have a clue what the real world is about all the A* he got never helped him. And what was all the "am into culture and i find it hard to talk about football" rubbish maybe he should start liking what real people actually like then he'll get along just fine!!!

I think the standard of the apprentice hopefuls was very poor, I don't think I will bother watching the rest of the series because of their jumped up attitudes and egos. A wod of advice Sir Alan please audition ordinary working class people like yourself for the next series maybe then we see a "proper apprentice", in the making.

Its hard to say as there are so many idiots on there at the moment that we aren't really able to tell whether he was the most idiotic of the lot or whether we just had the misfortune of seeing so much of his idiocy due to the editing - after all they will have known who the three in the firing line were before the edited it together. He is the sort of person who not only gives barristers a bad name (they aren't all like that - honestly), educated people a bad name (again not all like that) and people who come from monied backgrounds a bad name (again not all like that). I think we probably have a production line of idiots to look forward to over the next few weeks - and of course the prize idiots who will be kept in just cos they know they will make good TV. Staged? Absolutely.

Well, its much easier to criticise from our homes but will the critics be willing to have a go and get themselvies dirty and sell some fish. They are young and lack experience in business thats why they are on apprentice. The girls were far more adaptabe and less competitive with each other. Hopefull, they will become more focused and team spirited as they progress. Lets see the next time around.

Let this be a good example to future employers, get someone with experience rather than a fancy piece of paper that actually has no resemblance to how the real world works.

Where do they find these people? How do people get such high flying jobs being as young as they are? What experience in business or life have they had when they have only been out out of university for a couple of years. Some of them have obviously been born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Personnally I'd like to take it out of their mouth and stuff it up their hooray henry arses. Great veiwing, keep it coming.

Guys, guys, guys, please don't be so hard on the poor kid. We don't know if his parents have money or if he is rich or not but in all honesty he is one snobby, stupid, arrogant and young. I think it got to his head that he got first class in his degrees and he was proud of it. Well, I got first class in my law degree and a distinction in my Masters and I have no doubt in my mind that I will get that on my LPC but that does not make me any better than anyone else out there and certainly not smarter. Maybe a hardworker and a go getter but nothing else. I think it all happened because of his young age and immaturity nothing else. Good luck.

Just goes to show, all the qualifications in the world aren't worth a bean if you don't have any common sense to go with them!
