The Apprentice's Nicholas De Lacy Brown

- Watch video: This year's candidates

From the opening moments of last night's Apprentice it was clear that we had another bunch of jumped-up, arrogant, cringeworthy know-it-alls battling for a job with Sir Alan - in other words we are in for another excellent series.

Ian can't even bring himself to say the word 'loser', Jennifer rates herself as 'the best salesperson in Europe', Claire says she likes to crash through everything like her family's german shepherd dog and scary Sara doesn't like to beat her opposition, she likes to thrash them.

The first task saw the group split into male and female teams and given a load of fish to sell at a London market. Easy? Well, no. The teams struggled to tell their Monkfish from their Sea Breams and ended up selling the fish at a fraction of the actual value.

Other highlights of the first episode included sulky Ian pursing his lips and declaring that he hated losing, Lucinda's kooky dress sense (do health and safety regulations allow people to sell fish wearing a purple woollen beret?) and, of course, Raef's hair - what's that all about?

The award for best line has to go to Sir Alan's sidekick Nick who asked the boys' team "Did it strike anybody that a £5 lobster is bloody cheap?"

The boardroom showdown saw the girls triumph and drippy boys' team leader Alex chose to take Nicholas and Raef back into the boardroom with him.

Things quickly escalated into a class war with Nicholas declaring that the group had split into the educated and the non-educated.  Alex was quick to point out that he also had a university degree which led Nicholas to point out more differences between the boys - he likes to talk about arts and culture and they like to talk about football apparently. The writing was really on the wall for Nicholas at that point and Sir Alan rightly fired him.

I was actually hoping Alex would be fired, because even though Nick was a pompous Prat, Alex, Lee and the older bloke really ganged up on the other "shorter" people, and Alex especially was determined not to be blamed for ANYTHING! Nick really was a scapegoat for the rubbish team leader!

Atypical jumped up snob who thought he was so clever. In the real world it just showed how inept he really was. I would sooner employ a monkey than this idiot. He implied that does not talk about football. Probably talks more about himself i daresay. i thought these type people went out with the ark. Hope he now finds some humility in his tofflike brain. I doubt it.

Prats, or is that Sprats? What could be easier than buying a copy of Fishing News, a weekly paper which gives landing prices at Newlyn, Plymouth, Urk, etc. At least some vague idea of the price of fish. OK, so not everyone knows of FN, but with all these BlackBerry gadgets they all seem to sport, the price of fish is not that difficult to get hold of!

Outstanding Academic record is neither a ticket to success nor a defacto demonstration of ethos and etiquette, attributes that were clearly missing from Nicholas' repertoire! He deserved to go; his arrogant posture would hardly command any respect from his team-mates and it would be doubtful how a person like himself could lead, inspire and win respect and recognition within a mutlimillion empire!

I thought Sir Alan Sugar's face said it all when he dissed 'football' and the 'working classes'!!!! That's how intelligent he was... essentially slagging off his potential employers roots!!!!! He got exactly what he deserved!!

The loud noisy 'Talk the Talk' candidates will be fishmeal very soon as the modest 'can do - Walk the Walk' winners will be swimming in the warm currents of success. If your so full of it, your up your own backside and your not getting on with solving the challenge. Watch the 'in touch with reality' aspirers pick their way thru the attitude merchants who like to play amateur psychology games. Steve 'Fleetwood Codhead' Minto.
