The X Factor is once again at the centre of a controversial row over newspaper claims that Diana Vickers was well enough to appear on last Saturday night's show.
Viewers were told that Diana couldn't perform a song on 'Mariah week' because she was suffering from laryngitis, however, the Daily Mirror has a video of her sounding in good voice during Bonfire Night celebrations - just several days before the show.
This appears to contradict claims made during the programme that she first complained about her voice the pervious Sunday and missed rehearsals because she was confined to her bed all week.
Fans of the series are now speculating that the real reason she missed the show was because she would have struggled to perform a Mariah Carey song.
Diana automatically got through to this week's show while Laura White was voted off in one of the most controversial decisions in X Factor history.
More than 21,000 people have now signed a petition to bring back Laura to the contest. Laura was an early favourite to win the show and blamed her departure on newspaper stories about her lovelife along with tactical voting by the judges.

I totally agree. We watched the xtra factor last Saturday night when they showed a film of the finalists celebrating bonfire night. Diana was certainly amongst them which for someone who was ill was certainly not what she should have been doing. If she was well enough to go out that night she should have made to perform. We actually think Diana is a fantastic singer and is good enough to be in the final but above that, any competion should be run fairly and in last weeks case the x factor was not run fairly. Diana should be disqualified and Laura re-instated to the show.

Laura, however, received the least number of votes from the phone poll, therefore she should also have been eliminated, as she was. Therefore in my humble opinion, there should have been a double elimination that week. Maybe the show would have finished one week earlier...but who really cares?

Would all this have come out about people being disgusted at Laura leaving, if instead of sending her home Louis had put his vote the other way and put it to sudden death, and then it turn out that she had indeed been given the lowest votes from the phone lines??? I don't think it would have. You have to remember that the 2 that go into the sing off have already been told thay have received the lowest amount of public votes by phone meaning that one of them HAS the lowest!!! Why all the fuss - she knew the rules - in the sing off you either win or lose and she lost!! No matter what the claims of tactical or bias voting were. She lost!! If Diana had a medical reason for not being on the show then so be it, if it turns out to be lies then the truth will out sooner or later, and then ITV will have to answer.

That way she wasn't getting a free ticket to the next week and people could choose if they wanted to keep her in. Ruth sang with a throat infection, they wouldn't make exceptions for her. I've had to do 3 hours of shows with glandular fever and tonsilitus. You wouldn't damage your throat permenantly from singing one song. She could have done it, she just didn't want to sound bad.
