The X Factor is once again at the centre of a controversial row over newspaper claims that Diana Vickers was well enough to appear on last Saturday night's show.

Viewers were told that Diana couldn't perform a song on 'Mariah week' because she was suffering from laryngitis, however, the Daily Mirror has a video of her sounding in good voice during Bonfire Night celebrations - just several days before the show.

This appears to contradict claims made during the programme that she first complained about her voice the pervious Sunday and missed rehearsals because she was confined to her bed all week.

Fans of the series are now speculating that the real reason she missed the show was because she would have struggled to perform a Mariah Carey song.

Diana automatically got through to this week's show while Laura White was voted off in one of the most controversial decisions in X Factor history.

More than 21,000 people have now signed a petition to bring back Laura to the contest. Laura was an early favourite to win the show and blamed her departure on newspaper stories about her lovelife along with tactical voting by the judges.

    Its a fix, it always as bin a fix since day 1... All the gd ens get snt um n the sh!t ens win. I mean look at Shayne Ward & Leon Jackson were am they now? They only win cos the judges like em. Look at Cowell ended it wiv is wife cos he fancies tha spanish bird, dirty old ....

    I think its cheating, I think Diana is a fake and a copycat singer. She should have automatically been put into the bottom 2 and let the public vote. Why should she have an automatic pass to the next week when she didn't perform? its wrong and unfair.

    This cheating amongst the organisers means that viewers lose faith in the validity of the competition - eleanorswift Sorry love but this contest has never had any credibility unless you understand that Simon Cowell always wins then you are conning yourself

    Neither Laura or Ruth should have been in the bottom two and in all fairness Ruth was better in the sing off. Laura isn't suited to the songs that she sings on the show so i think in the long term this was a good thing for her. Am not a fan of Diana and if she has to miss another show she should go, as it's not fair on the other competitors and it will look like the result is being fixed in her favour. She sounded fine when she performed 2 saturdays ago. I don't get the fuss about Diana, she's just a Joss Stone wannabe (the barefoot performances, dress and attitude).

    They should never have had a vote off last week! Sure Laura wasn't brilliant last week, but she was by far NOT the worse singer! So what happens when a contestant can't sing until the final??? Do they get through to the final by default??? TOTALLY UNFAIR....change the vote off rules.....this show isn't about talent anymore! It's about tactics and egos!!!!! Bring back the clapometer!!!!

    its a complete fix, diana will be out next week all the good ones are going. and the rubbish ones like daniel are in. its a fix fix fix!! and 70 of my friends are not watching anymore. because its a fix. they have lost tons of viewers. sympathy vote!!!!

    it's common sense that Diana is part of the competition and her failure to perform is a clear message that there should not have been a voting off period.Laura was in the competition to compete with Diana as well.It's very unfair.I'm just surprised that reality television has come to this.
