Basil Brush is being investigated after a complaint was made about an alleged racist joke in the puppet's BBC series.
A complaint was received by the police following a recent screening of an old episode that features the fox telling jokes about gypsies, reports Metro.
The episode, which was originally shown six years ago, features a sketch where a gypsy woman tries to sell Basil some wooden pegs.
A police spokesperson said: "We can confirm we have received a complaint about a TV show featuring Basil Brush from a member of the public in February. The complaint was logged as an incident of a racist nature."
Joseph Jones, a spokesperson for the Romany, Gipsy and Irish Traveller Network, said: "Racist abuse of black people is quite rightly no longer deemed acceptable, but when a comedian makes a joke on TV about pikeys or gypos, there's no comeback."

The police should have told the gypsy who made the complaint to go have a wash and get a job to pay for the TV licence so they could have watched Basil Brush legally and pay council tax so they had a right to make a complaint to the police...

Sould we bring back public execution, the stocks? With all the problems in the world, we have to make a big deal out of this? When is this garbage going to cease? Who the hey is running this country? Do the gypsy's have an advantage over our system? Maybe they think of turning the Home Secretary into a toad instead of Basil? Hey, that job is already done for then! Maybe Basil should have been a Ghurka? Then we could call him "Basil the Ghurka"!! At least Basil has a better residency deal then the the Ghurkas do!!! So much for good ol' British rights and Diplomacy!!!!!

You hardly ever see them patroling the streets.. Use to be a "boby on the beat" was tremendous security! I was taught to respect and look up to the police.. Kinda hard to do when they are not really there! What justifies them for getting a 4.9 percent increase in tax payments when people like myself only get a 1% raise per annum (some people do not get a raise at all)!!! Most people, especially around min wage are being made redundant, losing jobs, homes, even families,etc.. at least the fire department gets some money! I am glad for them, they do something! With all the injustice and hypocrisy that these politicians use to obtain their big salaries and expense accounts, and with all the wrongs like the elderly paying more and more council tax along with the rest of us, how does Basil get all the attention? Maybe we should make him the PM! Have his part known as the Squirrel (NUTS)party?
