Controversy as Rachel exits X Factor

Simon Cowell has sparked controversy after leaving last night's X Factor decision to the public vote.

The judge, who had the deciding vote after Rachel and Lloyd found themselves in the bottom two, said he couldn't decide and that he wanted it to go to dead lock instead.

The programme's host Dermot O'Leary then revealed that it was Rachel who had received the fewest votes and would therefore face the axe.

Simon's decision was surprising as he had previously commented that Rachel had given the best performance during the sing-off. Lloyd, who was suffering from a sore throat, struggled to hit the notes during his song and looked visibly shocked when he found out he had been saved.

Dublin twins John and Edward once again were spared from the bottom two after winning support from the public for their rendition of We Will Rock You.

Elsewhere, former favourite Danyl Johnson appeared deflated as he delivered an off-key version of I Don't Want To Miss A Thing. He later claimed that he couldn't hear the music during the first part of the song.

But the biggest misfire of the weekend was surely Cheryl's outfit on Saturday night's show. The Girls Aloud singer appeared to be celebrating her number one single and album by wearing a dress that had what looked like two silver discs attached to the front of it. Dannii once again effortlessly outshone her in the style stakes.

What did you think of last night's decision? Did the right person go? Let us know...

No, this week Rachel was better than both the other girls and in the past the song choices she had been given were poor. Even Simon said so, a number of times. Lloyd hasn't been very good from the begining but he appeals to the teenage girl voters. Because of his voice problems it was right to go on the viewers voting and thats what saved him. I'm sure Simon felt Rachel was the better singer and if Lloyd had been fit he would have put Rachel through. Those twins are terrible and voting for them is losing other, far more talented singers their chance. Its makes the whole show a complete farce, its Louies fault for putting them through in the first place. We all know what the British public are like, I can see them with a number one Xmas hit for sure! Then they will disappear like many Xmas one hit wonders before them. And a good thing too! They may be good entertainment on telly but no one would pay good money to see them unless they are as nuts as they are!!

I think it's terrible, I'm 62 and only watch bits of the x factor, but Rachael is a good singer, a lot better than those twins, why are still there, i would buy a record, if Rachael made one, so good luck to her.

Yes Simon bottled it, he was a wimp, which was surprising because he is critical of the publics support for the twins. Louis should put in his rule book that the judges must make the final decision.

Rachel should have stayed, at least she has a very good voice unlike annoying twins John and Edward who are pathetic

I don't understand Simon wants to win so yes he knew that the public vote would put Rachel out... it is after all a competition and in the world of Music it is and will awlays will be a competition to keep your artist at the top in the pages and mind of the people. I don't know what wrong for Rachel because out of all the girl she has the biggest baddest voice, i feel sorry for her because not to many english lables do anything spcecial with a talent like her she can hope Clive davis was paying attention and picks her up and now HE is bad ass
