Richard Gere

Pretty Woman star Richard Gere is being tipped to send pulses racing across the nation with a special appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.

The actor is reportedly in talks with the BBC about performing a one-off dance on the show in a bid to boost ratings.

Gere is expected to team up with Phil Tufnell's partner Katya Virshilas, whom he worked with on the 2004 movie Shall We Dance.

A Strictly Come Dancing source told The Sun: "The BBC is desperate to woo back viewers who have switched to The X Factor.

"ITV is hammering the show in the ratings so bosses think getting some high-profile names on will do the trick."

Other stars who are said to making an appearance include Mariah Carey and Pamela Anderson.

The BBC could not confirm or deny the story but said they are in talks with a number of celebrities about appearances on the show.

Will you be tuning in if Richard Gere makes an appearance? Who else would you like to see on the show? Let us know...

BBC screwed up the format of the show by firing the qualified judge and trying to bring on young unqualified talent. Why mess with the original format that was working. Bringing on big names is not going to help. Get the original format back. Your new judge is struggling and doing a bad job. good looking @#$% but wrongly placed, She doesn't have the talent to judge and you can see that in the professionals faces. BBC you are at fault for the low ratings.

I would like to see both X Factor and Stricktly, but prefer the former. I agree with Simon Cowell that the BBC should not be trying to compete. I tried to watch Stricktly on Virgin catch up service the next day and it was unavailable. Very disappointed. RS

for pity's sake Gere is almost the same age as John Sergeant and Bruce and as vain as they come. really fancies himself as god's gift to all women. That incident with the Indian Actress, he just went straight at her assuming she wanted him all over her, what a wimp. Get real, get a Man, One with some genuine appeal. andwhilst about it, get Charlise Theron for the @#$%!!

definitely would watch Richard Gere!!!!!!!!! Have watched the last bit of X-Factor AFTER SCD for the last two weeks and am amazed and saddened by the poor quality of the actual performances. Surely Britain's got more to offer than that--or is it the fault of the judges who apparently choose inappropriate material each week--I don't know, but I do know that dressing up and blinging out doesn't make a singer!

The BBC has the falling viewers in their own hands. There is no need to pay a fortune for someone like Richard Gere for one performance just get rid of Bruce and his dreadful so called jokes - that in my opinion is the only failure on the show - last week he was a little short of pathetic and the judges laugh at him - My God? wake up BBC you are letting the best show on TV drop below the X Factor??

How much longer do we have to have Strictly come Dancing pushed at us. It was a good show to start with but it has been on too long and it is a master as spreading time out over nothing.
