Ant and Dec 'banned from Jonathan Ross show'

Ant and Dec

ITV has reportedly banned Ant and Dec from appearing on Jonathan Ross's BBC One chat show.

The broadcaster made the decision after the BBC ruled that Barbara Windsor couldn't appear on Piers Morgan's Life Stories on ITV, reports The Sun.

Ant and Dec had been due to appear on the show next week to promote their new autobiography.

A source told the paper: "Ant and Dec are livid. They really wanted to go on, have a laugh, plug their new book, talk about their new show and the next series of Saturday Night Takeaway.

"The BBC know an ITV show with Barbara would hurt them in the ratings so they've acted in this petulant way."

It's feared that the ban could lead to more of the big names from each channel being barred from appearing on rival stations.

This latest row comes just a day after ITV accused the BBC of 'aggressive' scheduling after it revealed that the first Saturday edition of Strictly Come Dancing will go head to head with The X Factor.

Do you think ITV is right to ban Ant and Dec from Jonathan Ross's show? Are the broadcasters being childish or are they right to protect their star assets? Let us know what you think...

Wow. That's a shame. Ant & Dec on Jonathan Ross would have been loads of fun. Both BBC and ITV need to grow up because these "bans" just get in everyone's way.

Can someone please explain why the BBC ( essentially a non-commercial company that doesn't need to show rating figures to potential advertisers ) feels the need to compete on a ratings basis with a commercial station like ITV? The number of people watching BBC shows would not cause the license fee to rise or fall so I just don't get it.

Do they really think people are that bothered or that sad ! Most people have the facilities to record programmes and most of them are repeated again the next day - so those who want to watch them will be able to anyway!! They are cutting off there noses to spite their face

Agreed, it is shame that our viewing is ruined by petty squabbles. The same applies to the strictly and Xfactor schedules - myself and the kids will want to watch both but will probably channel hop and miss good bits from both - never quite the same when you watch repeated later on!

I think ITV are playing a very risky game here. If I were Ant and Dec I would still go on the show. What will ITV do - sack them?? I very much doubt it, they are one on the braodcaster's biggest draw!!! I'm sure other broadcasters would snap them up, and their Saturday Night Takeaway concept, very quickly. I'm sure ITV won't take that risk - they'll be on Jonathan Ross.
